Bauxite is a sedimentary rock with relatively high amounts of aluminum from which aluminum is obtained after processing. In other words, this stone is the most important source of aluminum. Bauxite consists of the minerals such as: Gibbsite, Bohemian, and Diaspora, which are mixed with the iron oxides of Goethite and Hematite, the mineral kaolinite, and small amounts of anatase.
Bauxite Characteristics
The specific gravity of bauxite is between 2 and 2.5 Newtons per square meter. Another feature of this mineral is its very low hardness on a scale between 1 and 3 mice. Of course, these differences in the properties will not affect the quality of this mineral.
Due to its impurities, this mineral cannot be used unprocessed, so it must be processed based on the intended application or the required engineering material. There are many mines in Iran that extract, produce, and export large quantities of bauxite annually. Among these mines, we can mention the mines of Yazd, Kerman, Semnan, etc.
